Nordic Water has a complete line of activated carbons. We offer high-pressure carbon adsorber vessels for liquid phase applications that are rugged enough to use at construction sites and hazardous waste cleanup projects. We can provide high flow rate vapor phase carbon units that have extremely low pressure drop. We design and build treatment systems for consultants and cleanup contractors doing work at leaking UST sites, brownfield properties, superfund sites, and other projects involving hazardous wastes. In addition, Nordic Water is a full service soil and groundwater remediation equipment manufacturer.

Activated carbon is an industrial chemical, made from coal or charred hard fruit shells and fruit pits. Coconut shells and cherry pits are often used. The coal or char is subjected to high temperature air and steam inside a kiln, which drives out the volatiles, leaving chunks of almost pure carbon. The chunks are then ground and sieved into granular chunks of various sizes. The choice of the sizes is determined by the requirements of the application. The granules may vary in appearance from fine sand to small pebbles. The carbon, thus activated, becomes so filled with holes that the surface area of just one teaspoonful of this material will cover the area of a football field. Activated carbon has the attraction property that causes the impurities found in water and air to adhere to its surface, and as such is used extensively for filtering and purification.
The water coming out of an urban water tap has often been filtered through swimming pool sized beds of activated carbon. The air in some public buildings passes through large tanks of activated carbon before being piped into the ventilation system. Activated carbon is also used extensively in cleaning up the environment as well as preventing contaminants from reaching the environment.
Sometimes the activated carbon is impregnated with various chemicals for specialized applications such as trapping some specific gas and catalyzes application. Sometimes the activated carbon is washed in acid to achieve the characteristics needed in specialized applications. Often, the activated carbon is made from powdered coal, pelletized, and then activated. This achieves the uniformity, both for size as well as composition, needed for some applications.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
Nordic Water was established to integrate activated carbon technology and waste management services to become your single source for pollution management. Our OSHA trained technicians, hazardous transportation network, hazardous and non-hazardous recycling facilities, and fully permitted incineration facilities provide you with peace of mind while meeting regulatory compliance for any type of waste stream you may encounter.
